Evgenia Makogon painting Lunenburg Harbour

Artist from East Coast.

Born in Sochi Russia, I moved to Nova Scotia Canada in fall 1997 and fell in love with beautiful autumn colours of this province.

Art was my passion from a young age. I remember looking out the window and doing watercolour sketches of the houses and trees across the street. Painting was my favourite subject in the Sochi Art School. I loved going to the mountains to paint plein air in the summer time and working on still life paintings in the winter.

After moving to Canada I decided to continue my art education at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (NSCAD) and in 2005 I graduated with my BFA. I haven’t put down the brush ever since.
My subject matter varies from still life to landscape and sami abstract paintings. I enjoy working on miniatures as well as on medium and large scale paintings while experimenting with oil, acrylic, watercolour and mixed media. My favourite things to paint are the once that will make you smile and will warm up your heart.

Every summer I travel around Nova Scotia looking for inspiration and taking in fresh air, sunshine and ocean breeze. I participate in plein air painting events in Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg and Annapolis Royal. In winter I work in my studio in Halifax. I am obsessed with painting coastal Nova Scotia and would like to share its beauty with you.

Welcome to my world and enjoy your visit.
